How Your Business Can Achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions
A Net Zero claim is only as credible as the strategy behind it. UK corporates, property funds, and logistics operators are now accountable to investors, lenders, regulators, and customers for the carbon claims they make and the framework is tightening. SECR, TCFD, the FCA’s sustainability disclosure regime, and Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation all demand that decarbonisation pathways and renewable energy claims are evidenced, auditable, and structurally sound.
Most Net Zero advice that commercial organisations receive is shaped by a commercial interest: a developer selling a PPA, an installer selling a rooftop scheme, an offset provider selling credits, or a consultancy selling an offset-heavy strategy because offsets are the easiest revenue line to bill against. Arc Renewables is none of those things. We advise on Net Zero pathway design as an independent fee-paid advisor and we earn nothing from the equipment, contracts, or instruments our clients procure as a result.
Arc’s Net Zero Strategy service sits alongside our Renewable Energy Consultancy, PPA Advisory, and Renewable Energy Certificate Strategy lines. It is the function that sequences on-site generation, energy efficiency, off-site procurement, and certificate strategy into a single auditable pathway designed around the buyer’s reporting obligations and absolute reduction targets, not around a seller’s product margin.

What Arc does?
- Net Zero pathway design
A site-by-site or portfolio-level decarbonisation pathway built from the buyer’s actual energy profile, asset base, and reporting obligations. Arc sequences on-site generation, energy efficiency, off-site procurement (PPA or sleeved supply), and residual certificate strategy in the order that delivers the most reduction for the least capital and that aligns with SBTi and TCFD validation requirements.
- Baseline emissions assessment
An independent Scope 1, 2, and material Scope 3 baseline aligned to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Arc validates the boundary, the data sources, and the methodology so that the reduction trajectory you commit to is built on a defensible starting position rather than a number a previous consultant inherited from another framework.
- SBTi and Corporate Net-Zero Standard alignment
For organisations pursuing Science Based Targets initiative validation, Arc structures the decarbonisation strategy to meet SBTi’s near-term and long-term requirements including the renewable energy procurement criteria (matching, additionality, geographic alignment) and the residual emissions removal approach. Arc works alongside your sustainability lead or external sustainability consultancy on the technical procurement components.
- SECR and TCFD reporting alignment
Arc advises on how the Net Zero strategy connects to your SECR submission, TCFD disclosure, and (where applicable) ISSB-aligned reporting. The procurement and certificate decisions you make directly shape what you can report. Arc makes sure those decisions are made deliberately rather than discovered at year-end.
- Portfolio Net Zero advisory
For property funds, REITs, logistics operators, and housing associations with multi-site portfolios, Arc designs portfolio-wide Net Zero strategies sequencing on-site generation across the estate, aggregating off-site procurement to maximise commercial leverage, and consolidating reporting under a single auditable framework. Output is structured for asset committees and investment boards, not engineering teams.
Key distinction
Net Zero is not a procurement category. It is a target architecture that depends on absolute emissions reductions across the value chain, with high-quality residual removals only at the end. A strategy built around buying Renewable Energy Certificates without first sequencing on-site generation, efficiency, and contracted off-site supply will not survive an SBTi validation panel or a serious auditor’s assurance review. Arc’s starting position is always reduction first procurement and certificates are downstream tools, not the strategy itself.
New construction projects must adhere to increasingly stringent regulations that promote high-performance standards. Initiatives like Design for Performance are urging developers to focus on energy intensity in addition to carbon emissions. However, a significant portion of the buildings that will exist in 2050 have already been constructed, necessitating substantial renovations to reduce energy consumption and eliminate dependence on fossil fuels.
The ultimate goal is to establish a zero-carbon supply that meets demand while staying within the Paris Agreement budgets for 2050. Failing to do so poses considerable risks to energy security, fuel affordability, and the viability of assets.

In collaboration with our expert onsite team, we offer continuous support throughout the lifespan of your system, ensuring you achieve consistent, long-term benefits year after year.
As we journey towards a net-zero economy, the transition to electric heat and transport is expected to double energy demand over the next 30 years.
The built environment is responsible for around 40% of the emissions that the UK is looking to eradicate by 2050. How we build, maintain and operate our buildings is changing in response to the challenge of reaching net zero.
This will require new low-carbon generation and energy storage technologies, as well as the development of grid infrastructure to transport power to the end consumer. Considered planning and investment in infrastructure is essential to generate, distribute and supply the low carbon electricity that will be needed on a national, local and site-specific basis. We specialise in creating high value projects in this everchanging, complex and growing market for Investors and Funds, Landowners, Developers, Renewable energy developers and Occupiers.

Frequently Asked Questions – Net Zero Consultancy
What is the difference between Net Zero, Carbon Neutral, and SBTi-aligned?
“Carbon Neutral” typically means an organisation has matched its emissions with offsets it does not require absolute reductions. “Net Zero,” under credible frameworks like SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard, requires deep absolute reductions (typically 90%+ across all scopes by 2050) with only high-quality removals for residuals. SBTi-aligned means the targets and pathway have been validated against SBTi’s scientific criteria. Arc designs strategies to the credible end of this spectrum not to the marketing-friendly end.
Does Arc set or validate the Net Zero target itself?
Arc advises on whether a proposed target is achievable given your asset base, energy profile, and capital constraints and on what the procurement pathway needs to look like to deliver it. Formal SBTi target validation is carried out by SBTi itself; specialist sustainability consultancies typically lead on the submission. Arc handles the renewable energy and procurement components within the broader strategy.
How does Net Zero advisory connect with Arc’s other services?
Closely. The Net Zero strategy sets the procurement framework; Renewable Energy Consultancy delivers the on-site feasibility and project sequencing; Project Delivery executes the on-site generation; PPA Advisory structures the off-site supply; Renewable Energy Certificate Strategy handles the market-based reporting layer; and Asset Management ensures the operational systems perform to the projection that the Net Zero strategy depends on. Arc is the only UK firm that delivers all six functions independently without earning a commission from any contractor, funder, or counterparty along the way.
What size organisation is Arc’s Net Zero advisory built for?
Mid-market commercial through to large-cap. Arc’s Net Zero advisory is appropriate for organisations with multi-site portfolios, SECR obligations, lender or investor sustainability covenants, or active SBTi commitments. Arc does not work with residential clients or with organisations whose Net Zero requirements can be addressed by a single rooftop installation.
Does Arc sell or recommend offsets?
Arc advises on the role of high-quality carbon removals within a Net Zero strategy particularly for residual emissions that cannot be eliminated through energy procurement or efficiency. Arc does not sell or broker offsets, and does not recommend offsets as a substitute for absolute emissions reductions. Where specialist offset advisory is required, Arc refers to a qualified third party.
